First Treasury was founded on March 26 2001 by Steen Wibe Larsen and Torsten Ballisager. After a splendid dinner at cafe Victor they walked the 100m to café Dan Turrel in the old part of Copenhagen, and here they really started to talk. At that time Steen was working as an independent contractor and Torsten was working for Ernst and Young, both in the same area of finance and IT. Steen thought that it might be the right time to found a company that only focused on finance and IT. Torsten bought into the idea. However an open question was: what to call the company? In 2001 we were still at the height of the Internet bubble and First Tuesday was in those days a cool organisation that garnered a lot of hype by brokering networking contacts between internet entrepreneurs and investors. Steen and Torsten therefore thought that “First something” could be a good name for the company and hence the name First Treasury came along. “First”, signalling that we want to be the best in what we do and “Treasury”, signalling that this was and is what we are good at. Niels Larsen joined First Treasury as the third partner on 1 May 2001 and Lars Arne Christensen joined the company as the fourth partner in the spring of 2002. Thomas Skou joined First Treasury as the first employee in the autumn of 2002 and is now a manager, specialising in Asset Management for larger financial institutions. Today our operations have broadened from treasury into asset management, liability management, commodity management, and portfolio management. We also focus not only on advanced finance and technology but also on processes, organisation and people related aspects. We have grown from a two person company into a larger company with offices in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo and Sydney. |
