The purpose of the design phase is to further detail the analysis and to provide a sound basis for the implementation phase. The design phase consists of 5 elements:
These are presented below ScopingIn the scoping phase, the TO-BE, from the analysis phase, is detailed and further structured. The purpose is to be able to define a number of areas that are required to be designed and to describe the content for each of these areas. This will enable a precise design document to be made for each of these areas. These design documents will form the basis for the implementation and thus ensure that the TO-BE will be realised as intended. The delivery of this phase is a scoping document which typically consists of around 50 pages with reference to the TO-BE. RequirementsIn this phase the requirements of the envisioned future solution are determined and documented. This is done for each of the defined design areas of the solution. The delivery of this phase is a list of requirements for each of the defined design documents. Business modelFor each of the design areas, workshops are held and the solution is sketched on paper. This is achieved be means of descriptions, system diagrams, process maps, organisational diagrams etc. It is very important that the client is involved in this part of the process. During this phase:
The delivery from this phase is a number of design documents. The design documents show the TO-BE solution, in a sufficient detail, for the client to be able to evaluate how the solution will be implemented and for First Treasury to be able to evaluate that the design is realisable from a system, process and organisational perspective. PrototypingIn the prototype phase, a prototype is built. The prototype is built on a limited selection of the defined requirements and the created business model. The purpose of the prototype is to:
The delivery from this phase is a functioning prototype that can be tried out in a limited manner. Sign OffThe delivery from the design phase is several design documents. Each of these documents has to be signed off before they can serve as input for the realisation phase. |
